Dale Birkland and Dr. Jean Brown of P/V "Miss Behave" earned "First Place" in the overall weight, length and count categories in the "2009 BOC Summer Pike Fishing Tournement" with their Saturday morning catch of a beautiful 30" northern pike from Cochiti Lake.
Asked what they caught the winning pike on, Birkland replied, "I caught it on Jean's pole. She put up a good fight for over 15 minutes before I finally landed her rod into my own hands." He went on to add, "We normally practice catch and release, but we encountered an accidental fatality somewhere between the 'catch' and the 'release', so we'll be eating pike salad sandwiches and creamed pike on toast for most of the week."
There were no second or third place winners this year as the Birkland-Brown team were the only entrants and their acceptance of the "First Place" trophy disqualified them from claiming the additional trophies.

If you have a laser sailboat and are looking for a few other laser boats to practice and race with there is a new fleet starting at Cochiti Lake. They claim they will be sailing all year round. Contact Justin Tolliver or John Savickas to get involved and see what days they're sailing. See contact info below.

Several members have asked about t-shirts, caps, etc. with the BOC logo on them. I have discussed this with Sandy Harrington and she can provide that for us if we are interested. There is a one time $85.00 setup fee. I propose here that we pay this from our holdings. I will ask Tom to write a check to Sandy for the setup. Sandy will post available items with pictures on the BOC website.

Quite a bit of rain.
Quite a bit of rain
And then warm dry calm.
Some people were concerned about their staggeringly tasteful and well-made new cushion covers getting leaked on.
Many others were stoically cooking for and nurturing damp sailors.
A goodly number of cheerful young visitors played Cranium and their laughter and cheering inside the HQ was a ray of sunshine for those outside trying to figure out some sort of jury-rig for their robust, powerfully grometed new jib. [ they ended up raising their old jib, but too late to start in the race the Committee had so considerately delayed on their account ] .
There was a broken orange-colored boom around the tower. That added color to the race.

Atlantic Meeco Builds and Installs Floating Marinas Around the Globe
Andrew Quintana of Cochiti Community Development Corporation (CCDC) says that CCDC is planning to build and operate a new marina at Cochiti Lake. "We're working with Atlantic Meeco to install either a 46 slip or a 56 slip marina in the same location as the previous marina. Either design would be expandable to add more slip capacity in the future as needed."
Quintana said that if all preparations were in place, the marina will be installed later this summer (2009). The following ad was placed in the Albuquerque Journal on page D-3 on Thursday, March 5, 2009:

While they are still in the decision making process, CCDC needs "letters of interest" from boat owners showing an interest in renting a slip in the new marina. "We need to gage the demand so we can decide how large the initial installation should be," said Quintana. "The letters are important for us to have on file at this stage."
Your letter of interest should state whether you would be berthing a sailboat or a powerboat in the new marina.

Letters of interest should be sent to:
Att: Andrew I. Quintana 5200 Cochiti Hwy Cochiti Lake, NM 87083
Quintana said there were no current plans to increase the amount of dry storage at Cochiti Lake because CCDC does not have available property to build it.
A more detailed report on the planned marina facilities will follow as more information becomes available.
Editors Note: to make it easy for those of us who can't find time to write and send that letter, i wrote a "generic" letter of interest that can be printed out HEREhttp://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dg7sgrsb_30gj3dqdgv
all you have to do is sign it, add your contact information, and mail it.
